Solaris Security: Step-by-Step Errata and Updates

Updated February 19, 2001

Step 1.4, In the table of contents and the checklist at the end of the guide, the title for this section is incorrectly given as "ADDING ADDITIONAL PATCHES". The correct title is "ADDING ADDITIONAL PACKAGES" as shown in the text of guide.

Step 2.2.6, CAVEAT: Disabling these daemons also has the effect of preventing dynamic pty allocation under Solaris 8. Administrators may wish to leave these daemons running on their Solaris 8 systems.

Step 2.3.5, Solaris 8 now uses dynamic pty allocation, so setting pt_cnt is no longer appropriate. Do not put this line in /etc/system on Solaris 8 systems. See also errata note on Step 2.2.6 above.

Step 2.4.3, In the table of contents and the checklist at the end of the guide, the command for this step should be rm /etc/inet/inetd.conf /etc/inetd.conf as shown in the text (not "/etc/inet/inet/inetd.conf" as shown in the current version).

Step 2.5.3, Recent patch updates to Solaris 7 now allow the administrator to set the logging option even on the root file system.

Step 2.5.4, Recent patch updates to Solaris 7 now set nosuid in /etc/rmmount.conf by default.
